Governor Kidero urges National Government, TSC and KNUT to find lasting solution to teachers impasse

KENYA: Nairobi City County governor, Dr Evans Kidero has called for a lasting solution which will bring an end to the teachers strike.

Speaking at his offices in City hall when he received class 8 students from Loreto Convent Msongari Primary school the governor said that the National government, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) should strive to find a lasting solution to the ongoing impasse which had paralyzed the education sector and called for reconciliation to be sort for the good of the Kenyan children, who are the future of this country.

The governor who spent two hours with the students answered questions on matters concerning Nairobi City County government, services provided to Nairobi residents, the functions of the Nairobi County Assembly, the history of Nairobi City and demystified the devolved system of governance and the role of devolution according to the new constitution.

Says governor Kidero "In many African countries, growing up for the girl child remains a major challenge with a high number of girls dropping out of school each year for various reasons; including pregnancies, early marriages as well as health and hygiene issues.

Mentorship of young girls is a key element of ensuring that young girls remain focused on achieving their life goals and reaching them while they are still young. It is also  critical to be able to influence and shape their values and mindsets."

The students were led by their students' president, Sylvia Gworit and the deputy president, Wambui Gitahi. Also present was the County Executive Member of committee for Public Service Management Ms Mercy Kamau and Education Chief Officer Andrew Mwanthi.
