Laikipia county headquaters to be moved to Rumuruti

Laikipia, Kenya: Laikipia county headquarters will shift from Nanyuki town to Rumuruti in Laikipia west, following the passage of a motion in support of an earlier gazette notice.

In a heated debate, majority of the members in the county assembly voted in favor of the  motion arguing that Nanyuki was at the edge of the county and the headquarters needed to be in more central point. The motion had been moved by the minority leader Paul Lebeneiyo

Githaga ward  representative Peter Thomi noted that people from his region had been neglected for a long time and they had no option but to travel to Nyahururu which a part of it was in Nyandarua county.

Those who opposed the motion argued that Nanyuki town is already developed and it would cost the county government a lot of money to build new offices, meanwhile the county government has set aside Sh 56 million for the construction of the county offices and a chamber.
