Aspirants trade words over voter exodus

By Tobias Chanji

Political aspirants in a constituency in Kwale County are trading accusations over alleged transportation of residents to register as voters in a neighbouring area, snatching them potential votes in the process.

Former Msambweni MP and one time assistant minister Marere Wamwachai and sitting Kingwede Shirazi ward councillor and one time Kwale

County Council Chairman Mshenga Ruga Vuyaa, both eying the Msambweni parliamentary seat, are pointing fingers at counterparts in Lungalunga, recently hived from Msambweni, for the act.

Speaking to The Standard yesterday, Ms Wamwachai accused the Interim Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials in the area of turning a blind eye to the development.

“It is surprising that some of our competitors do not believe in a level playing field,” said Wamwachai.

IEBC Msambweni Co-ordinator David Maro however said he could not do much since no formal complaint had been lodged.
