No clear favourites for Sunday

It gives me great pleasure to welcome the Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, to the races tomorrow. We are indeed privileged and hope he will enjoy the meeting.

Tomorrow is Kenya St Leger 2009 Day. I do not expect to see a decisive winner now that conditions underfoot have changed. The field includes some confirmed stayers such as Silverdale, Wild Wind, Jai Jai, Shujaa and Camelay.

On-A-Promise, hot favourite for the Derby, may yet again find the 2,800m. beyond him but tactics will play their part. Silverdale on form should be in the firing line and is taken in preference to Jai Jai.

Although there are only five declared runners in the Spanish Cup it surprises me that this prestigious Open Handicap should be relegated to the last event of the afternoon. I understand the course is quite heavy underfoot so there are bound to be upsets inform. Warai top of the handicap with 62kgs, until and after the Kenya Derby 2009 which he won, was a bit of an enigma but latterly he appears to have got over his problems. Now that he has got his form back, he should land the Spanish Cup. His two strongest adversaries, Sifi Moyo and Ten Thirty — have been scratched. Megh could perhaps be the next best thing.
