President Uhuru Kenyatta tours ferry headquarters

President Uhuru Kenyatta today visited the Kenya Ferry Services headquarters and met senior officials.

After the meeting, the President was conducted on a tour of the parastatal’s offices at Likoni in Mombasa County. He also used the ferry when he crossed the Likoni channel.

He was accompanied by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala and Kenya Ferry Services officials.

The ferry services at Likoni have had several challenges as a result of frequent mechanical breakdown of the old vessels and their costly maintenance.

The Government’s plan to build the Dongo Kundu bypass is at an advanced stage. This will decongest Mombasa and offer an alternative route to the South Coast.

Another solution to the perennial traffic jams is the proposed construction of the Changamwe by-pass that will link the western part of Mombasa and the North Coast.
