Kenya: Peter Munya upbeat on devolution

Council of Governors (CoG) Chairman Peter Munya has hailed the role the 47 county governments have played in improving living standards.

The Meru governor said that over the last two-and-a-half-years since county governments took over various devolved functions, residents had benefitted from many projects.

"The county governments have rekindled hopes in the grassroots by opening and grading new roads to connect villages, building health centres and providing clean water to homes and public facilities," Mr Munya said.

The governor said although counties were starved of development funds, they had done well with the duties they were mandated to perform.

Munya also noted that counties were modernising towns and transforming them into economic hubs.
