State House distances Uhuru's delegation from Japan sex saga

NAIROBI: State House has distanced President Kenyatta's delegation to Japan from the sexual harassment saga allegedly involving an MP who was part of a separate team that was on a concurrent tour.

"The MPs were in Japan for their own work of Parliamentary committee while the President was attending the UN meeting on disaster management. No reference should be made to the two delegations," said President's spokesman Manoah Esipisu Wednesday.

It has recently emerged that one MP in the delegation sexually harassed a female colleague, an incident that has caused public outcry.

Manoah volunteered the information while briefing journalists.

"There has been confusion about the issue so we want to clarify that the delegation of the MPs were not part of the President's team. The President only met the MPs for 10 minutes during the last day of his trip," he said.

Initial reports had indicated that the MPs were part of the presidential delegation.

Joyce Lay, the woman representative of Taita Taveta County, has accused a fellow MP of insulting her after she allegedly declined his sexual advances at their hotel in Japan.

Ms Lay was among a group of MPs drawn from the National Assembly Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations who had travelled to Japan.
