I am in G7 to stay, Kalonzo says

MWINGI, KENYA: Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka has maintained he was firmly in the presidential race under the G7 Alliance. Kalonzo sought to dispel suggestions that he had cut ties with Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto.

The VP said he was in good terms with the two leaders and confirmed he spoke with Uhuru on Thursday, over coalition negotiations. Kalonzo said his Wiper Democratic Movement was keen in working closely with other political parties to win the March 4 presidential polls.

“I want to state here that we are in talks with like-minded leaders to come up with formidable formula to win the elections in first round. Last Thursday, for instance, I held such talks with Uhuru Kenyatta, and would continue to do so with others,” the VP told a rally at Kyuso Township after opening a WDM party office.

He said he was running for president on a platform of social transformation, food security, the fight against poverty and impunity.

The VP, who was in Kyuso, Mwingi North, said his government would invest in infrastructure development and value addition for agricultural and industrial products.

“Kenyans should ask the hard questions before voting,” the VP said.
