AP arrested after gun drama

An Administration Police (AP) officer was arrested in Nyatike Constituency after he was allegedly mistaken for a thug.
Migori Deputy Superintendent of Police James Mwangi confirmed the incident and implored on the residents to be patient as they investigate the matter. He explained they didn’t know the suspect was an AP based in Nairobi after he reportedly drew a gun inside a local pub causing panic among revellers.

moved swiftly

“We were tipped off and our officers on patrol moved swiftly and apprehended him only to establish later that he is a police officer,” Mwangi told The Standard.

The incident follows complaints by residents of rising insecurity.
On Sunday, area MP Edick Anyanga asked the State to beef up security.
He claimed that escalating criminal acts were likely to hurt businesses at a time the Government is working hard to stimulate rural investments.

With a general election beckoning, the legislator claimed that insecurity could push many residents out of business.
The MP blamed the district security team for laxity and called for thorough investigations into various criminal incidents.
Anyanga said rising insecurity has put many lives at risk. He wondered why APs were being allowed to carry guns outside their stations.

ascertain truth

Anyanga claimed that already four senior AP officers in Nyatike have been interdicted as the cases of insecurity get out of hand. However, Regional Commissioner Erastus Ekidor dismissed the claim but said investigations were ongoing to ascertain the truth.

Mwangi said they will investigate out where the suspect obtained the gun while he was expected to be on duty elsewhere in Nairobi.

He added senior administrators at Mathare camp where the AP is stationed were handling the case.
