Performance enhancing drug use has pervaded international athletics like a malignant tumor, and the ever present war against this cancer has caused irreparable damage to the integrity of the sport. As an athlete, fan, and researcher of track and field, I find this conflict both unfortunate and necessary, because at stake is the spirit of the sport.
