Mara Education Trust Chairman Andrew Sunkuli has lauded President William Ruto for appointing Katoo ole Metito as State House Comptroller and nominating Soipan Tuya as Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary saying it is a great honour to the Maa community

Mr Sunkuli said that the president has shown that he values the Maa community despite not overwhelmingly voting for him in the August 9 General Election.

The Mara Education Trust Chairman who had been designated as Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's running mate before they withdrew from the presidential race and supported Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga said that the gesture has laid the ground for engagements between the community and the Kenya Kwanza administration.

"These gestures may well have laid the ground for a constructive engagement between the Maa people as a whole and the William Ruto administration, by nature the Maa are grateful people who appreciate his benevolence which started off with two nominated senators," he said.

The Nairobi-based businessman said that President Ruto is a trustworthy leader who keeps his word citing the nomination of Peris Tobiko to the Senate after stepping down for Mr Metito who unsuccessfully vied for Kajiado governorship on a UDA ticket.

Ms Tuya is also a Nominated Senator, and if approved by the National Assembly she will resign to take up her new role as Environment and Forestry CS.

He noted that the State House Comptroller is an experienced politician who served as Kajiado South MP for 17 years having taken over from former Public Service Minister Godfrey Paapai who died barely two years after being elected during the 2002 General Election.

Sunkuli said that Soipan goes down in history as the first female Cabinet Secretary from the Maa community.

He noted that her experience as Narok Woman Representative for 10 years and being a lawyer makes her suitable for the CS position.

"The Maa community is known for its pride in conserving the environment, we have preserved our heritage with the Maasai Mara and Amboseli National Parks in our midst, having Soipan Tuya as Environment Cabinet Secretary is definitely a good decision," said Sunkuli.

The businessman congratulated Metito and Soipan for their new appointments and urged them to serve Kenyans to the best of their ability.

"The Maa community has suffered a century of neglect and marginalization, any act of generosity to them, any deliberate gesture to mainstream the community in the national conversation will be rewarded handsomely in due course," said Sunkuli.
