Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called for an honest dialogue between the Kenya Kwanza government and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.
Speaking during the burial of Nyeri County ANC party chairperson Philip Githua, Mudavadi said Azimio leaders should not approach the proposed bipartisan process with hidden agenda.
"We support discussions that will take place between President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga but the dialogue must be geared towards issues affecting the country," he said.
Mudavadi, who was accompanied by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga said the only way to find solutions to issues articulated by the opposition leaders will be through a parliamentary process.
"The President's initiative to have dialogue is because he is ready to bring harmony to this country, if we want the nation to move forward this process must be taken seriously and done genuinely," said Mudavadi.
According to him, Ruto urged Raila to call off the weekly mass protests because he is a peace-loving president.
Mudavadi noted that President Ruto demonstrated magnanimity even in victory by extending an olive branch to Raila.
"He (Ruto) was courteous in his statement and representatives of the European Union have described his speech as a true statesman's words," Mudavadi said.
According to him, the government is ready to deliver promises it made to Kenyans during campaigns "and it was time to stop politicking."
"The President has assured Kenyans that the government is determined to ensure that there are development projects in the country and the call for bipartisan talks should help propel government's agenda," he said
Governor Kahiga said the initiative by the president was honourable gesture but warned that Raila should not take advantage of the talks window to find ways of getting into government.
"We urge Raila not to be driven by his own selfish gains to get into government, he should use the opportunity to table the issues he want addressed.," said the county chief.
Kahiga said conditions must be stipulated to guide the dialogue between the two leaders and ensure the opposition does not wreck the government.
