MP wants clergy to expel Shakahola's 'demons'

Kilifi Woman Representative Gertrude Mbeyu now wants to invite religious leaders to expel demonic powers from Shakahola forest.

Just a few weeks after controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie was arrested, the finding of more bodies from the forest has left Kenyans baffled after the number of bodies hits over 200.

According to Mbeyu, the mysterious acts have tainted the image of her county.

She proposed that only prayers from serious religious leaders can wipe out the demonic powers introduced by the controversial church in Shakahola forest that allegedly convinced its members to fast to death.

Speaking in the company of 13 MPs who were hosted by Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma at St Paul's Homa Bay Catholic Church, Mbeyu said she will organize a special prayer for expelling demonic powers in Shakahola.

"What happened in Shakohal is uncalled for. I am going to invite credible religious leaders to conduct a special prayer for eradicating the impact of the demonic powers introduced in the forest," said Mbeyu.

She argued that it is through such prayers that Shakahola forest will regain its lost purity.

The woman rep distanced herself from associating with Mackenzie and Pastor Ezekiel Odero.

She argued that even though Makenzi lives in her county, she never went to his church to seek any political support during her campaigns ahead of the last two general elections.

Mbeyu argued that people should not associate with anybody who portrays a cultic activity.

"This is my second term as a woman rep for Kilifi County. But I have never visited the churches in the area to look for votes. This means I have been successful in my political career without them," Mbeyu said.

She urged Kenyans to shun pastors who have been adversely mentioned in the Shakahola deaths.
