A woman is being held at the Kakamega Women's Prison cells after failing to raise a Sh100,000 bond after she pleaded not guilty to defiling two boys aged seven and eight.
The accused, Jenipher Sam, took to the dock on Wednesday after undergoing an age assessment to ascertain she was of age and fit to stand trial.
She was charged that on February 13 and 14, she defiled the boys at Emusala Village, Kakamega Central sub-county within Kakamega County.
"Your honor, the charges are a fabrication, I am not guilty," she told Kakamega magistrate Josephine Maragia.
State lawyer Duncan Mbonzo told the court that they were forced to take the woman for an age assessment after there was doubt as to whether she was an adult.
Mbonzo was not against releasing the accused on bond saying that she was a first-time offender.
He at the same time said that he had five witnesses, including guardians and parents of the boys together with medical officers who examined the boys and the woman. The case will be heard on July 10.
