Premier Club stuns rivals at Nairobi Age Group swimming gala

Premier Academy and Fithub swimming clubs were the sides to beat in the Nairobi Age Group and Masters swimming championship, at Makini School.

The two clubs showed they had plenty to give after posting impressive results in most of the junior races of the three-day gala that ended on Sunday.

Premier Academy won the boys' category with 22 medals; 12 gold, nine silver and one bronze.

Rusinga School also had a splendid day out as they finished second after winning 12 gold, seven silver and two bronze. Cavina School were third with 11 gold, three silver and three bronze for a total of 17 medals.

In the girls' category, Fithub Aquatic swimming club stunned bigwigs to bag 31 medals. They bagged 16 gold, nine silver and six bronze.

Rusinga School, in second position, had 24 medals that included 11 gold, seven silver and six bronze, while Makini School were third with nine gold, five silver and five bronze for a total of 19 medals.

The championship attracted 17 teams among them Braeburn Swimming Club, United States International University (USIU), Kenton College, Otters, Peponi, Hillcrest International School and hosts Makini School, among others.

In the individual performances, Ty Muriu of Premier Academy won the boys 14/15 years 200m individual medley (IM) and the 200m freestyle.

Muriu timed 3.11.28 to bag 188 points in his victory in the 200m IM, before clocking 2.50.15 for 199 points in the 200m freestyle.

Premier Academy had the last laugh in girls' 10/11 years 50m backstroke after Ayanna Biongo and Victoria Awori timed 1.12.30 and 1.13.46 for 42 and 40 points respectively.

In boys' 10/11 years 200m freestyle category, Eliel Kinisu and Jeremy Kihato, both from Premier Academy, registered a time of 4.06.15 and 4.23.76 to grab the first and second positions.
