Musician Brandy Maina found herself in hot water after her tweet announcing that she will only be collaborating with a select few artists for the rest of the year went viral.

In response to the backlash, Brandy took to her Instagram stories to explain why she made the decision and to defend herself against the trolls who clearly did not understand the dynamics of her industry.

Brandy began by stating that those who were criticizing her were not artists and therefore did not understand the situation. She then went on to explain that as an artist, it was essential for her to focus on her solo projects because that is what mattered the most in the long run.

"I can tell the people pressed about my tweet are not artists because they clearly don't get the back end of it, there is time for everything," said Brandy.

She added that collaborations required a significant amount of time, money, and effort, and she needed to preserve these resources for her EP, which was scheduled for release later in the year.

"If I do a song with you, I will push it to the best of my ability and that takes time, money, and effort that I think I need to best preserve for my E.P for the rest of the year," she wrote.

Earlier in the day, Brandy had made the announcement that she would only be collaborating with a select few artists for the remainder of the year. The artists mentioned in her tweet were Nyashinski, Kinoti, Watendawili, Femi One, and Fathermoh.

However, this statement did not sit well with some netizens who accused her of being full of herself and thinking that she had already made it in the industry.
