Knec releases timetable for CBC, 8-4-4 exams

The timetable for Grade Six and Class Eight national examinations is out.

According to a schedule released by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), examinations for Grade Six learners started on Monday.

For Kenya Certificate of Primary Education candidates, rehearsals will be held on Friday, November 25 with examinations beginning Monday, November 28.

Knec Chief Executive Officer David Njengere said all schools have until September 9 to download and administer examinations under the Competency-Based Curriculum.

This is after Knec made available assessment materials on its portal.

After learners sit the examinations, the schools will have one week to upload their scores to the portal.

Grade Six learners have already done their projects and practicals, which are part of the national assessment.

In Art and Craft, learners were examined about making a marionette, while the Home Science question tested their sewing knowledge. In Music, learners were required to perform a folk song of their choice, while in Science and Technology they had to model the circulatory system.

In Physical Education the learners were supposed to crawl and swim, skip a rope, and catch a ball with both hands.

The Grade Six summative assessments will see learners assessed in 13 core subjects namely; Kiswahili, English, Mathematics, Home Science, Agriculture, Science and Technology, Creative Arts (Art, Craft and Music), Moral and Life Skills and Physical and Health Education.

Others are social studies (Citizenship, Geography and History) with an option of a foreign language (French, German, Chinese and Arabic).

All schools are required to upload the projects and practical work on the Knec portal by September 16.

Results will be determined through school-based assessment (SBA), which is done every year in upper primary classes, and a five-subject summative national examination.

Students will have 60 per cent of the score coming from SBA spread over grades Four, Five and Six plus 40 per cent of the summative report.

At the end of the year, Grade Six learners will sit for the Kenya Primary School Education assessment.

For KCPE, learners will sit for Mathematics in the morning of November 28, which will be followed by English Language, and English Composition in the afternoon.

On Tuesday, November 29, they will sit for Science, Kiswahili Lugha and Kiswahili Insha. The final exams will be Social Studies and Religious Education on Wednesday.

Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidates will start their exams on Friday, December 2, with the English Language paper followed by Chemistry Paper 1.

On Monday, December 5, they will sit Mathematics Paper 1 followed by English Paper 2 (Comprehension, Literary Appreciation & Grammar).

The following day, learners will sit English Paper 3 (Creative Composition and Essays based on Set Texts) and Chemistry Paper 2.
