Comedian YY recently shared why he quickly moved on to a new relationship following his breakup with long-term partner and baby mama, Marya Okoth.
Speaking in an interview alongside his new girlfriend Noella, the content creator explained that his desire to build a family and the challenges of moving on after a long break led him to embrace love sooner than some may have expected.
"I'm a family person. I'm 31 years old now," he started off. "Nikingoja ata 6 months naingia 32. I'd love to build a family for myself," he added.
YY reflected on how breaks after serious relationships can often be counterproductive for men like himself, explaining, "One thing I know is that as a man, ukijipea break ata ya miezi sita after you are from a long-term relationship, hautawai move on, na hautawai taka mambo ya wanawake."
He shared his view that lengthy breaks can lead to a sense of comfort with being alone, making it hard to take the leap back into relationships.
"I know of people, that period, if you give it a chance...for even six months, you will not want anyone in your life," he said.
Being a self-described "family person," YY shared that moving forward with a new relationship felt like the right decision, both for him and those who support him.
The comedian, real name Oliver Otieno, also acknowledged the inherent risks in relationships, especially with a new partner.
"Relationships are a risk," he admitted. "She might not know what I can turn into, and I don't know what she can turn into. We are both just putting our cards, hoping that this becomes the best thing that has ever happened."
Despite the risks, YY stated that he was following his heart, saying, "I am also not doing this for anyone; I am doing this thing for me."
YY's announcement about his new relationship came shortly after he publicly confirmed his separation from Marya Okoth on September 6. The former couple, who share a three-year-old daughter, were not legally married, but YY took the opportunity to clarify the nature of their relationship.
"Let me put this straight and maintain some respect," he stated. "In as much as we didn't get married legally, we respected each other."
He stressed that their relationship was committed, saying, "I don't want people going around disrespecting what Marya and I had, saying it was a come-we-stay marriage. No, it was not." YY also added that their bond was genuine and deep, explaining, "The papers are just a formality."
In a step toward formalising his commitment to Noella, YY recently visited her parents in Bungoma for a traditional introduction ceremony. He shared a video from the event on Instagram, where he could be seen celebrating with Noella, her family, and friends.
The comedian appeared excited and humbled, posting a message of gratitude for the occasion: "God, thank you for the honor to meet her parents...I can't do it without you. Help me give my all."

YY even showcased the hospitality he experienced, sharing scenes of a beautifully arranged table filled with traditional dishes and various meats for guests to enjoy.
Capturing moments from the gathering, he thanked Noella for "walking me into your father's house" and acknowledged the importance of taking this step. "A real man must face the parents to table his intentions," he wrote alongside a video of himself driving to the event.
When asked about wedding plans, YY said, "I think that one we leave it to God, but we pray that it's as soon as possible."
