Covid-19: 624 test positive as 31 remain on ventilatory support

Some 624 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Kenya in the last 24 hours.

They were from a sample size of 6,728, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said today.

The CS in the statement said the positivity rate is now 9.3 per cent. 

Of the cases, 567 are Kenyans while 57 are foreigners. 405 are men and 219 are women.

According to Kagwe, the youngest is a two-month-old infant while the oldest is 94 years.

The country’s total confirmed positive cases are now 174,285 and cumulative tests so far conducted are at 1,852,612.

In terms of county distribution; Nairobi led with 152, followed by Kisumu 70, Busia 58, Mombasa 47, Uasin Gishu 38, Kisii 33, Bungoma 31, Homa Bay 25, Kakamega 19, Siaya 18, Nakuru 15 and Kiambu 15.

Today 313 patients recovered from the disease, with 258 from the Home-Based and Isolation Care programme while 55 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Kenya’s total recoveries now stand at 119,246 of whom 86,596 are from the Home Based Care and Isolation programme, while 32,650 are from various health facilities.

Seventeen people have succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 3,362.

“A total of 991 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,940 patients are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme,” the statement added.

Some 111 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 31 of whom are on ventilatory support and 66 on supplemental oxygen.

As of today, a total of 1,059,117 vaccines have so far been administered across the country.

Of these, total first doses are 982,310 while total second doses are 76,807. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 7.82 per cent with the majority being men at 57 per cent while women are at 43 per cent.
