Kamari wins the Diwali tourney at Vetlab

Home golfer Charles Kamari posted a commanding score of 44 stableford points to lift the Diwali Golf Day title at Vetlab Sports Club layout over the weekend.

Playing off handicap 22, Kamari had a great round despite shocking himself with the win save for a few bad breaks in between he still steadied himself to emerge victorious.

"I would be lying if I said how I won because if I did know how I did it, I would always be winning all the tournaments I participate in," said Kamari in his speech. 

He also thanked the organisers made up of members of the Asian community to celebrate Diwali Festival for putting together a great tournament which saw 250 cards processed.

Chasing Kamari to the podium was Ian Njoroge, playing off handicap 11 on a score of 40 stableford points to take the Men winner prize. Neel Chandarana was Men winner second prize winner after losing out to Njoroge on countback on a similar score of 40 stableford points as handicap 18, Kush Shah won Men winner third also with 40 stableford points.

Cheerful, Priscilla Karobia who is also the Lady Captain playing off handicap 24, was all smiles as she bagged the Lady winner prize on a score of 40 stableford points. Handicap 17, Joy Ndonga was Lady winner second on a score of 39 stableford points.

Visiting golfers were led by the Guest winner, Prashanth Srinivas playing off handicap 15 on a score of 35 stableford points beating Phelix Oketch on countback to Guest winner second on a similar score of 35 stableford points.

Leading the Senior golfers was Mahesh Gudka playing off handicap 32 who carded 37 stableford points ahead of Senior winner second Steve D'souza who returned to the clubhouse with 35 stableford points.

It was a sibling rivalry in the Junior category as the tussle was between the Kavia brothers, Dhruv and Parv who were Junior winner and Junior winner second respectively on 37 and 35 stableford points both playing poff handicap nine.

Best in the Nine was Rohan Khanna winning the First Nine with 24 stableford points and veteran golfer Stephen D'souza picked the Second Nine prize with 21 stableford points.

Diwali organising committee winner prize went to a handicap 15, Anik Patel who carded 33 stableford points off handicap 15.

In the commercials, Vivek Patel won the Longest Drive men's contest and Dorcas Mukabi won in the ladies category.

Nearest to the Pin Men prize went to Ian Njoroge and Joy Ndonga won Nearest to the Pin Lady winner prize.

Meanwhile, the par-72 layout is all set for an exciting golfing week as it counts down to the Captain (Anik Patel) prize set for November 11, 2023.

On Monday, they host 100's Seniors' event followed by a putter and pints which will double up as the club night.

Game drive with Ko and thereafter, the prohibited par with a large field of over 800 golfers expected.
