Gakuo on Song while Njubu claims Nyambura Memorial trophy in Thika

Mombasa Lawyer Gabriel Gakuo carded a sterling count-back score of 37 stableford points to emerge the overall winner of the 2016 Britam golf tournament at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County.

The handicap 14 home golfer’s luck, however, came on the par five-fifth and the par fiveseventeenth holes where he sank a rare birdie each before adding six level pars despite playing a mixed bag of bogey shots on the rest of both nines to claim the trophy.

“I had a wonderful but competitive team. The course was playing well and I thank the sponsors for the event,” said Gakuo.

He had tied on points with clubmate, handicap 16 Peter Mwangi who was the Men winner.

Handicap 24 Raphe De Silva also from the club was the Lady winner on 36 points.

A.J.Mulo posted 33 points to claim the Junior prize while Royal’s handicap 28 E.Kiliru on 34 points and Muthaiga’s handicap 27 Ken Kaniu on 31 points were the Guest and Staff winners.

Britam Insurance Company sponsored the daylong 18 holes event attended by 150 golfers from the home club, Mombasa, Leisure, Vipingo, Mallindi, guests and staff of the sponsors with valid handicaps.

At Thika Sports Course on Saturday, Samuel Njubu on 41 points won the 2016 Theresia Nyambura Memorial.

Agnes Kuria on 40 points was the Lady winner and the best junior prize was won by Brian Omondi on 41 points.

At Muthaiga Joseph Iracha won the 2016 Club Match Play Championships on 38 points.

Gale Brackenridge was the Lady winner on 31 points while the best Bull winner was Ambassador Solomon Karanja who had 32 points and Sean Nganga on 37 points and J.N.Gitau on 34 points were the Junior and Guest winners.

The AHF event played at Kiambu was won by Daniel kamau on a count back score of 41 points after tying with Men winner Mugo Kamau.

Mary Kimemia on 34 points was the best Lady and the gross winner on 81 gross was John Ngure.
