Tusker are the 202-2022 Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions.

Ten-man Tusker on Sunday defeated Posta Rangers 2-0 at Ruaraka Grounds to be crowned champions on goal difference as Kakamega Homeboyz finish second.

Shaphan Siwa and substitute Jackson Macharia struck in both halves of the match to see Tusker successfully defend the title they won last season when they dethroned record champions Gor Mahia.

Tusker finished the match 10 men after defender Kevin Monyi was sent off in the last minutes of the match following a second yellow card booking.

The match was a must-win for Tusker in their quest to retain the title since they were tied at the top of the table on 60 points with Kakamega Homeboyz.

A loss would have seen Homeboyz stroll to their maiden FKF-PL title. This is because in Mumias, Homeboyz had already collected three easy points on a 2-0 walk over win after their opponents Kariobangi Sharks failed to show up for the final game of the season at Mumias Sports Complex.

The Brewers win the league on goal-difference of four goals after both clubs finished with 63 points after 33 round of matches played.

Roberto Matano's side needed victory to retain the prize and they took the lead through Shaphan Siwa shortly before the interval. Shami Kibwana dinked and dummied past two defenders before floating in a cross from the right wing that Ibrahim Joshua struck to the post before Shaphan Siwa buried the rebound to give Tusker a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute.

In the final half, Matano introduced Jackson Macharia and Lawrence Luvanda for Siwa and Shami Kibwana respectively immediately at the restart with an aim of finishing off Rangers early.

The sub paid off in the 77th minute when Macharia netted the second goal, killing off any of Posta Ranger’s hopes of spoiling Tusker’s party.

The Brewers have now won the Premier League title 13-times. Gor Mahia finished the season third with 55 points following their 2-1 win over FC Talanta last Wednesday.

Bandari who lost 1-0 to Kenya Police finished fourth with 54 points as Nairobi City Stars closed the top five with 49 points after their 2-2 draw with Talanta.

Meanwhile, Vihiga Bullets and Mathare United have been relegated to the National Super League. 2021-2022 FKF Premier League Champions-Tusker Runners Up-Homeboyz Relegation Playoffs-Wazito Relegated Teams-Vihiga Bullets, Mathare United.
