Vihiga Queens bounced back to winning ways after thrashing Yei Joint Stars (YJS) of South Sudan 11-0 in a one-sided Caf women Champions League CECAFA qualifiers match at Kasarani Stadium on Wednesday.

The Kenyan representatives headed into the match in the wake of a disappointing 4-2 defeat to Ethiopia’s Commercial Bank in their opening Group B match and needed a win to increase their chances of progressing in the competition.

Violet Wanyonyi and Maureen Achieng scored four goals and three goals respectively to inspire the Boniface Nyamunyamu coached side to an important win ahead of their last pool match against the New Generation of Zanzibar.

Vihiga got off to a bright start with Achieng and Wanyonyi giving the Kenyan side an early 2-0 lead after scoring in the fifth and sixth minute.

Teresea Engesha stretched the lead to 3-0 in the quarter-hour mark before Wanyonyi grabbed his brace moments later for a 4-0 lead forcing YJS to substitute their goalkeeper after 20 minutes.

Change of guard by the Sudanese did little as Achieng made it 5-0 with her brace at the half-hour mark before Harambee Starlets star striker Jentrix Shikagwa made it 6-0 at the break.

In the final half, Vihiga keeper Lilian Awuor maintained her clean sheet after stopping a penalty.
