FKF-Premier League leaders Tusker bounced back to the winning ways after beating Ulinzi Stars 1-0 at Kasarani Annex on Friday ahead of the two-week international break.

Boniface Muchiri’s second-half goal is all that the brewers needed to recover from last month’s 2-1 shock defeat to Bidco United and consequently open a nine-point gap over second-placed KCB (26), who tackle Gor Mahia at Kasarani on Saturday.

Ulinzi almost took an early lead in the third minute, but Elvis Nandwa’s long-range shot was deflected for a fruitless corner before Bonventure Muchika did well to stop Henry Meja from scoring on the opposite end.

Meja had another chance in the 15th minute when he beat his marker after being released through by Kevin Okoth only for the Kakamega High School alumnus' shot to be denied by Ulinzi Stars goalkeeper James Saruni.

Moments later, Tusker’s Otieno Apollo miscued his effort as both teams went into the breather tied at goalless.

But the brewers finally found the breakthrough five minutes into the second half when Muchiri capitalised on the soldier’s defensive blunder to slot the ball into the net and eventually condemned Ulinzi to a third consecutive defeat.

In the other match at Kasarani Main Stadium, a few metres away from Annex, former Harambee Stars coach Stanley Okumbi earned his first point as Posta Rangers boss after the mailmen held Kariobangi Sharks to a barren draw.

Okumbi, who replaced Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo early last month, had suffered two defeats in a row against Tusker (4-1) and Sofapaka (2-1) before finally picking up a point with the team.
