Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is set to unveil a reconstituted Electoral Board today as Sports CS Amb. Amina Mohamed received support for her efforts to end elections impasse.

The eight-man polls board consists communications expert Kentice Tikolo and Patrick Onyango. Others members are media personality Ali Hassan Kauleni, former referee Alfred Ndinya, Samuel Karanja, Rachel Muthoga, Elaine Mbugua and Kenya Table Tennis Association boss Andrew Mudibo.

The initial electoral board then chaired by Prof. Edwin Wamukoya and Elynah Shiveka was disbanded after the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) nullified it saying it was improperly constituted.

Barring any legal tussles, the unveiling of the new board at Kandanda House will signal the start of the election process expected to deliver national polls on or before March 30.

Yesterday, however, a group allied to former FKF president Sam Nyamweya, which successfully petitioned the SDT to nullify initial election exercise said nothing short of a procedural election based on the laws of Kenya and Fifa Statutes will be accepted.

“Compliance with the Sports Act 2013, the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and the Fifa Statutes is the only way a credible election can be guaranteed,” a joint statement issued yesterday by the aspirants said.

The aspirants; Nyamweya, Steve Mburu, Lordvick Aduda, Angeline Elijah, Andrew Amukowa, Twaha Mbarak and Evans Rono praised the Cabinet Secretary for Sports Amb. Amina for rooting for elections in accordance with Fifa Statutes and Sports Act 2013.

On Thursday, a source at the Sports Ministry told The Standard that the CS was keen to ensure that Kenyan football is safe from sanctions by Fifa.

According to the minutes from the meeting seen by The Standard, it was agreed that in accordance with the law, elections at the County Sports Associations and league clubs would be held before the national elections which will be held before March 30, 2020 in accordance with Fifa demands.

“The federation has tried to arm-twist the Sports Cabinet Secretary and the Registrar of Sports to have their way, but we are happy the two have held on to their stand that the constitution must be respected to the letter,” the aspirants said.

They added: “There is no way branch and sub-branch officials, whose term has ended would be whipped into an illegal Special General Meeting to make important decisions. Such decisions have no legal standing. We expect the SDT and Sports Registrar to uphold the rule of law.”
