Kenya Sevens Rugby team head coach Benjamin Ayimba hopeful ahead of the weekend’s Singapore Sevens

Kenya Sevens Rugby team head coach Benjamin Ayimba is looking forward to a great outing in this weekend’s Singapore Sevens, the eighth leg of the 2015/16 HSBC World Sevens Series.

Shujaa, who are currently eighth on the overall standings with 63 points, have been drawn in Pool C alongside third-placed South Africa (122 points), Russia and Scotland.

Kenya will kick off their campaign at 5.22am with a clash against lowly ranked Russia and then play Scotland at 8.43am.

The highlight of the day will be a 12.04 pm encounter when Kenya take on continental rivals South Africa. The two teams will be facing off for the third time this season. In the first meeting in Cape Town, Shujaa stunned Blitzboks 14-12 in a preliminary round match at their own home turf before South Africa avenged the defeat by beating Kenya 26-19 in the same stage of the Sydney leg.

Despite the rivalry between Kenya and South Africa, Ayimba has already made it clear that his target is to garner not less than ten points from the tournament.

“I know it will not be an easy tournament, but like I always say our aim is to get out of the group and the rest will take care of itself. On paper it looks an easy pool, but there are no favourites in the modern rugby,” said Ayimba.

“But I think we have had very tough matches that have prepared us for Singapore because our mind are geared for hard games.”
