The very weird world of Brendan Rodgers

It's been six long months since the powers that be at Liverpool decided to end Brendan Rodgers' tenure prematurely.

That's six long months he's been off our screens. That's six long months of not having him tell us weekly on Match Of The Day about what great character his players have.

But the man's been busy. He's been all over the world for a start, but not just to have a quiet holiday out of the spotlight. Oh no.

We've rounded up the seven strangest things he's been up to since his October sacking below.

Prepare to enter the very weird world of Brendan Rodgers...

  1. Being snapped sleeping on an easyJet flight

After the stresses and strains of losing a job as big as the Liverpool hotseat, you can perfectly understand Rodgers' desire to jet away to the continent and get some much-needed rest. Unfortunately he couldn't have predicted fellow passenger Mike Lindfield would snap this rather amusing selfie of Brendan getting some instant shut-eye.

Also: easyJet, Brendan? Surely your pay-off would cover a cheeky chartered jet, away from pesky candid snappers?!

  1. Proposing in Times Square

Just 68 days after divorcing his ex-wife, Brendan got down on one knee in the very romantic, subtle, understated setting of... one of the busiest tourist attractions in the world. He did the deed on the same day as Liverpool beat Aston Villa 6-0 at Villa Park. How different his Valentine's Day could've been...

  1. Securing 4th place... in a popularity contest

Shortly after he was booted out of Anfield, a poll of 1,000 UK office workers revealed that Brendan Rodgers was the fourth most popular choice for which Premier League manager they'd like to have ordering them around in their own job.

The potential of constant reminders of their "tremendous character" and "absolutely magnificent" work ethic probably helped that. But if only he had got fourth when it mattered in the Premier League...

  1. Ruling out taking over at Manchester United

Yep, he really did this. Honest. "When you manage Liverpool, you know the Manchester United job is gone," he told talkSPORT. We don't think that was ever, ever, ever going to be in the cards, but at least he put any confusion over it to bed. Ta, Brendan.

  1. Being offered a money-spinning deal to join the Chinese Super League

As investment in the Chinese Super League continues to spiral to obscene levels to attract all the big names, there was only one person they could turn to: Brendan Rodgers.

He was sounded out by Beijing Guoan to become their new boss before he turned down the offer to continue his break away from the game. And also to allow him to do more stuff like the next two bizarre things...

  1. Playing golf with Denise Van Outen

Proof that Brendan is putting his time out of football to good use, Rodgers took part in a charity golf tournament in Dubai. He played a round alongside actress and television presenter Denise Van Outen, then later appeared at a Great Gatsby-themed party for the same charity.

The bar has been set now for out-of-work managers: if we don't get a snap of Louis van Gaal with Fearne Cotton at St Andrews next season, we're going to be VERY disappointed.

  1. Getting trolled over his BBC punditry

The unwitting David Brent of football returned to our screens to give his expert analysis on Chelsea's hammering of Man City in the FA Cup. Somewhat predictably, Twitter sparked into life to "discuss" key subjects like his tan and not-so-extensive vocabulary.

It's good to see you enjoying your time out of the game, Brendan.
