Next FKF boss should unlock football potential

Local football has been a laughing stock for a long time now across the region, with continued blunders that have made it hard to realise the sport’s full potential.

During the glory days gone by, qualifying for the African football showpiece, Afcon, was not a big issue.

Just like the majority of Kenyans, I love my football and I am passionate about it but it hurts to see how leaders take the beautiful game as a mere sport and hobby rather than helping unlock the big industry that is one of the most lucrative in the world.

In bringing back those days of glory, it’s important for those that will be elected on December 22nd to know that we need to work towards Qatar 2022 World Cup.

But before then, qualifying for the 2017 African Cup of Nations should be our priority

The Football Kenya Federation presidential aspirants should not be under any illusion of the tough task ahead.

The next FKF boss will need to anchor his tenure on teamwork by leading a team of men and women who will sacrifice their lives to restore our pride as a nation in Africa and in the football world.

Let us all remember that football does not belong to a selected clique to run.
Football belongs to all of us and the person chosen to run FKF must work closely with the Government and the corporate world to unlock support for FKF something that has failed to happen in the last four years because of corporates’ apathy.

It is important to intergrate delegates from across the country in the administration of the game as they would form the various sub-committees that are necessary in the effective running of the game.
Never again should football be run by one person. Never again should FKF be monopolised by a favoured clique. Never again should FKF financial dealings be a secret. The person chosen should plan to give back the running of football to competent standing committees run by the delegates and former footballers.

We want to see an FKF President that represents the future and follows a business model that football has become today.
