Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Sam Nyamweya insists all is well with regard to their broadcast deal with MP & Silva.

Nyamweya was reacting to a story carried by Feverpitch on Wednesday pointing out that the media company has asked for the deal to be renegotiated.

In his reaction, Nyamweya said they have not received any letter calling for a renegotiation of the deal, insisting that even if that were the case, then it is provided for in the contract.

“It is hearsay, there is no such thing as a demand by MP & Silva to renegotiate the deal. Furthermore, every deal has such a clause and if and when we receive such a request, we will deal with it as per the contract.

“It is also too early to talk about something like this because the contract has hardly been in force for more than two months.

“I want to state that we are in very good terms with our sponsors and that is why we have signed three deals and are working on a fourth one, which I cannot reveal now,” he said.

Nyamweya also dismissed claims that the FKF Premier League is of poor quality. He also denied allegations by Kenyan Premier League (KPL) that the federation has doctored the list of those who attended January’s general meeting in Kakamega.

“We have no reason to doctor the list of those who attended the meeting. It is public knowledge.

“Furthermore, the sponsorship deal we signed with our sponsors was clear on the teams that should take part in our league. The sponsors knew what they were getting involved in.

KPL should therefore keep off our sponsors or try and access details about our partnership.”

According to confidential correspondence in our possession, MP & Silva raised issues with the quality of the FKF Premier League clubs and the absence of Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards from that league.

They have also raised the issue of the KPL League, which has the top clubs in the country, and the involvement of SuperSport.

In this regard, they want the deal renegotiated. In signing the contract with FKF, MP & Silva guaranteed Sh2.3b ($2.5 million) a year and would recoup their money from a segmented rights deal with a Pay TV broadcaster, Free To Air broadcast, online and radio rights.
