Despite carrying the favorites tag ahead of their CAF Champions League clash with Gor Mahia, the Congolese side AC Leopards will not underrate their Sunday hosts in any way. Speaking to Standard Sports ahead of the titanic clash that has been christened ‘battle of the greens’, AC Leopards Team Manager Monsieur Didas Makoundou Ounounou was full of caution.

“I know we come here as favorites but Gor Mahia has also earned their place at this level by dismissing other teams. So we have to accord them respect” said Mr. Makoundou who has been in the country since Monday and has had the chance to watch k’Ogalo train and play friendly matches.

On Gor’s sharpness from his observation the team manager was quick to admit the club is not as badly off as people may want to imagine hence the Congolese must put forward their best foot to get a favorable result from Nairobi.

“The advantage of playing away in the first leg is that you are able to assess opponents, try avoiding defeat and then make amends at home. But in football we don’t talk till the ninety minutes are played. We only hope for the best.”

After the fortnight second round, the club that progresses from this tie will meet the winner between Nigeria’s Enyimba FC and Smouha FC of Egypt.
