Nairobi, Kenya: “The federation is merely responding to a mosquito bite with a hammer.” That is how best Gor Mahia Assistant Secretary General Ronald Ngala can sum it in response to late Thursday reports that Football Kenya Federation is considering writing to CAF to have the club withdrawn from the Champions League having failed to confirm its participation.
“Having been included in the CAF draws of December 2014 is the surest indication that Gor Mahia would participate in the 2015 Champions League” says Ngala “How we were required to confirm again in February 2015 beats basic logic.”
According to Ngala, it is true the federation has the last word on which club represents Kenya in continental assignments and that the federation merely wants to use this to fight a totally different war. Gor Mahia was seen as having a key sway in which direction many big clubs would troupe should the KPL and FKF go separate ways in terms of organizing the 2015 top tier league.
Having come out categorically on Thursday stating that they support a sixteen club league therefore throwing its support to KPL, Gor Mahia seemed to have dug its own grave as far as the federation is concerned hence the comeback from the FKF.
“If they make good their threat and withdraw us then we shall have no otherwise but to respect that since clubs only make correspondences to CAF through the local federation. But for the records, this is pure malice.” Concluded Ngala.
