Geoffrey Kamworor and Gladys Cherono win World Half Marathon titles

Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor of Kenya won the World Half Marathon Championship title Saturday, while five-time winner Zersenay Tadese of Eritrea only came fourth.

Kamworor completed the 21.0975-kilometer flat route through downtown Copenhagen in 59 minutes, 7 seconds. He was followed by Samuel Tsegay of Eritrea and Guye Adola of Ethiopia, who were both 13 seconds behind.

The trio of Kamworor, Tsegay and Adola managed to shake off Tadese, and the Kenyan then pulled away from his two rivals in the final kilometers.

Women's race

In the Women's race Kenyans swept the whole podium for the first time with Cherono in first (1:07:28) , Marry Wacera Ngugi in second (1:07:28) and Sally Chepyego Kaptich in third (1:07:51).

Event favourite Lucy Wangui Kabuu just missed out on individual medals as she clocked 1:08:36, five seconds ahead of Mercy Jerotich Kibarus, who completed for Kenya the historic feat of securing all team members in the top five positions; a first at the World Half Marathon Championships.
