Gotv Shield finals: High charges led to fans breaking gates

By Game Yetu

Can we term it as greed or what? Well, FKF raised the gate charges by doubling the price of what fans have been paying in all local league and cup matches.

As expect, the attendance was very high and that should not be anything to debate because the two teams – Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards commands the largest fan bases in Kenya.

Many fans not used to paying what can be termed to as exorbitant and in Sunday’s match, ugly scenes were inevitable because a section of the fans had to use force to gain entry in to the match venue. As a result, a number of gates had to be pulled down for fans to enter.

This is something that the match organizers should have worked on properly by putting reasonable ticket prices or deploying enough security personnel to man all gates. It’s no doubt the match organizers wanted to harvest a lot from the tickets sales but now they have made a big loss because many fans got into the match venue for free and caused some destructions which will have to make them spent on repairing.

The drill is, put reasonable price, attract many fans and harvest some good cash from the gate collections.
