Cristiano Ronaldo begs police to drop charges against hugging pitch invader

Ronaldo pleads for hug-fan charges

Cristiano Ronaldo has written to the Miami police this week to urge them to drop charges against a teenager who hugged him in pre-season.

Ronald Gjorka, a 20-year-old Real Madrid fan, stormed on to the pitch during their match with Chelsea in America over the summer – and promptly cuddled star man Ronaldo.

The long embrace was ended when police dragged away Gjorka and arrested him, before he was later charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct.

However, with the youngster preparing to get removed from college and sent back to his native Albania if convicted, Ronaldo has stepped in to help.

The Portuguese forward penned a letter to the authorities this week urging them to drop the case against Gjorka, allowing him to stay in the US.

‘I understand your position and the importance of enforcing rules and law,’ the letter read.

‘However, I respectfully request that you and your office reconsider this decision and dismiss the two criminal charges this young man faces.’

It’s not clear whether the letter will be successful in getting Gjorka off the hook, but Ronaldo going that extra mile to help out the boy is certainly heart-warming.
