Gor Mahia coach Logarusic roots for more strikers

By Gilbert Wandera

NAIROBI; KENYA: Gor Mahia coach Zradvko Logarusic says the team still needs an experienced striker ahead of the new season.

Logarusic, who returned last week after an extended holiday in his native Croatia at the same time said he is satisfied with the club’s recent signings and remains positive they will deliver.

The club have added to their roost former KCB marksman Paul Kiongera, David Owino formerly from Sony Sugar, Ugandan defender Israel Emuge and former Mathare United midfielder Innocent Mutiso.

“The three Kiongera, Owino and Emuge have really impressed me and I am satisfied with their output so far. With them, we can do wonders next season. Mutiso still needs a little time to be where we need him. To his advantage, he provides us a great option in midfield.

“Our biggest need now is an extra and experienced striker. We are expecting a tough season with more competitions to take part in. One more striker will be a great addition to our club,” he said.

Logarusic did not reveal who they are targeting but he remained confident of getting his man before the new season kicks off. The coach at the same time revealed that the technical bench will meet the club’s technical committee tomorrow to give them a report on the recent signings and progress at the club.

“We have just started training and have several new players. We have planned to give the club’s technical committee a progress report. They need to know where we stand at the moment,” he said.

Logarusic at the same time revealed that the 2013 season will be a tougher one with all the five teams favourites to lift the title.

“There are no clear favourites as we start the season. All the five top teams have a chance to win the league and this makes the new season tougher and harder for everyone,” said the Croat.

Gor finished runners-up last season after a good run going more than 25 matches. They won the Football Kenya Federation Cup and will represent the country in this year’s Confederations Cup.
