Kenya midfielder Macdonald Mariga was elated to be back playing competitive football again after featuring for Italian giants Inter Milan in a Serie A match against Palermo on Sunday.
After a lengthy injury which kept him out of action for several months, Mariga was keen to say how pleased he was with the 1-0 win over Palermo.
"It was a hard match, but what's important are the three points. I think we needed a win today, now we can build from this,” the Kenyan told Inter Milan official website.
On the own goal that handed The Nerrazuri the maximum points Mariga said, “Yes, we were lucky but we created a lot of chances and we just couldn't put it away. Now we'll just focus on working hard.”
“I'm happy to be back playing, I need to keep working hard, and we’ve got a big squad. My team-mates kept me mentally strong; it's not easy being out for 7-8 months. How important is Cassano's positivity? Antonio's a great guy and he's hilarious.”
Mariga, formerly of Parma, played eight minutes of the match at San Siro after coming in as a second half substitute for Cambiasso.
Finally a word on his future: “Let's see, now I'm at Inter, I have to work hard and be ready if and when the coach calls on me. We'll have a look at the situation in January.”
