Two men who stole five maize cobs and bean stems worth Sh80 have been committed to five months community service by a Gucha court.

Nahashon Kembero Onyancha and Henry Nyabaka Ontaborera committed the offence on June 17, at Onseka sub location in Kenyenya District.

The court heard that on the said day, the two stole five green maize cobs and 20 stems of beans valued at Sh80, the property of Michael Nyabara Matini.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge before Ogembo Principal Magistrate Lily Nafula.

Nafula directed that the two serve their sentence at Ibencho Chief’s office.

In the same court, a boy was charged with stealing six sugarcanes worth Sh60.

The ten-year-old boy committed the offence on June 19, at Emesa sub location in Kenyenya District.

He was charged jointly with others not before court of stealing the cane belonging to Jason Otani Nyaira.

He pleaded guilty to the charge. Nyaira told the court that on the said day, he went to his sugarcane farm and found six canes stolen.

He followed footprints, which led him to the accused who settled near a maize farm chewing the sugarcane.

He arrested him and escorted him to Nyangusu Police Station.

In mitigation, the boy said he was herding goats with his friend when he felt hungry as he had not taken breakfast.

Nafula discharged the boy on grounds that he was underage.
