Fake preacher jailed for six months

A man who pretended to be a preacher and stole property worth Sh13,000 will serve six months in jail.Stephen Kombe Kiti committed the offence on October 20, at Kisauni, Mombasa.
The complainant, Eunice Mwakudua was headed home from Nakumatt Nyali when the accused requested for directions to Panami Orphanage.

However, Mwakudua was not familiar with the place. Immediately another man appeared and asked Kiti if he was a preacher in a local television station.

Kiti and the other man then engaged the complainant in some prayers.
After the prayer, Mwakudua found that Kiti’s friend had left with her handbag and the goods that she had bought at the supermarket. She raised alarm and the public took him to the police station.

"I did not mean to do that but my friend insisted we should pretend that I was a preacher so that we could get money," said Kiti.
Kiti further told the court that his efforts to have his friend return the goods were fruitless because he had already sold them.
