Pay disparity angers military officer

A disgruntled military officer who has requested anonymity, would like to know what criteria the Department of Defence used to give officers an 'absurd wage increment'.

The officer says it’s unusual for Lieutenants and Captains "to get a very small increment while the bosses give themselves huge perks of allowances on top of their already hefty salaries".

"I know I am writing on behalf of many Kenya Airforce, Army and Navy officers," says the officer who alleges that their seniors receive Sh150,000 and Sh100,000 spouse allowance.

"How comes they do not give us the same allowances or at least a small percentage of it?

"We too have spouses. We know that we can not be on the same level but we feel that some individuals are ‘eating’ what is rightfully ours as usual," complains the officer, and concludes: "We thought change would come once Kianga left but we see the rot continues."

What’s your take on this, Gen Julius Karangi, Chief of Defence Forces?

On the education front, Mr Augustus Nzoka says he is ‘deeply amused’ by the way the Government is treating teachers under the Economic Stimulus Programme.

Graduate teachers are paid only Sh14,500 after taxation. He says this is appalling for a Government that claims to uphold labour laws.

"How does the Government expect the teachers to meet their daily needs?" Isn’t it ironical that the same Government expects teachers with house girls to pay them Sh7,500?
