Runway model

How did you get into modelling?

I was having lunch at the

Joseph David Kisila Kimeu

USIU cafeteria with some friends when I came across Strut It Afrika auditions that were going on. I enrolled and was shortlisted to the next round of auditions that took place at Secrets Lounge where more than 500 people auditioned. I was among the eight male models that were selected as the Strut It 50. I was then trained and did my first runway show as a Strut It Afrika model.

What are some of the fashion shows you have taken part in?

I’m fortunate to have taken part in several fashion shows locally. The Samantha Bridals Show was my first show, then Trends Fashion Show, Nairobi Fashion Market, Afad Show and Casino Malindi Fashion Show among others. Outside Kenya, I’ve modelled at The Swahili Fashion Week that was in Tanzania and The Hub of Africa Fashion Week that was in Ethiopia just recently.

What’s your take on male modelling in Kenya?

I believe there is a lot of potential. More publicity would go a long way. I’d also push for more outfits for male models by designers at various fashion shows.

What challenges do people wishing to pursue modelling as a career in Kenya face?

With the rapid growth of the fashion industry, clients need top-notch models. But like any item of quality, it comes at a price. I am lucky to be signed to a great modelling agency. Some firms, however, opt for cheaper unprofessional models who consequently lower the standards of the modelling industry.

You also recently took part in the Mr USIU pageant...

The pageant was a great experience. I finished as 1st runners up. I learnt a thing or two and most importantly, I had fun!

Are you dating?

No, I haven’t in a while, but I haven’t ruled it out.
