Back to school

Name: Wahu Kagwi

Highschool: PB, Precious Blood Secondary school, Riruta

1) Education is… The bedrock of success

2) What sports club were you in? Hockey

3) If I could go back to my high school days I would?

Not really, I like my life now!

4) The last time I studied for exam was... back in 2004 and believe me; I’m in no hurry to sit for another any time soon.

5) As a student your favourite class was? Why?

Mathematics. I’d get a rush from trying to solve a problem and the satisfaction of getting it right was amazing!

6) What sort of student were you?

I was a little of everything, class clown, bookworm, dreamer but mostly, I’d find myself getting involved in activities which would lead to outside interactions, such as drama and music.

7) Best high school memory?

When a song that my pal and I had written won the Inter-house Music Festivals competition! It was the best feeling ever! Imagine they still sing the song to date.

8) Worst high school memory?

When I got the worst punishment in the school, holiday punishment. All because a ‘Changerian’ (Lenana High School student) had given me his jacket during an evening function. Our school disciplinary committee thought that the circumstances under which I came to be in possession of the jacket were ‘questionable’. So, as punishment, I had to come to school for two weeks over the ‘holz’ to clean the senior toilets!

9) Most influential teachers

Mrs Akatsa, my biology teacher and Ms Maina, my chemistry teacher were the most influential in my life. I had a very low self-esteem, but they believed in me, and forced me to come out of my ‘cocoon’.

10) Dream career growing up?

My dreams kept changing. In Standard Three, I wanted to be an airhostess, in Standard Eight, a pharmacist and in Form Two an architect but never a singer!
