Elementaita's newest attraction

By Brenda Muse

On the first of July, the Serena Hotels opened up their newest outfit in Kenya, the Lake Elementaita Serena Camp.

The luxury-tented camp is not only situated on a prime location, right by the shores of the lake, but it is now part of a World Heritage Site, after bieng recognised by Unesco for its unique universal value to humankind.

The camp introduces a new feel of opulence, finesse and unique nature experience.

All the 24 extra large tents are ensuite, tastefully furnished, with spacious bathrooms, and a private verandah. The rooms have a view of the lake but the taker of the prime view is the Flamingo suite, the executive suite, available for those seeking a little extra luxury. For honeymooners, this is the perfect place to while away the days, soaked in a Jacuzzi, listening to the chirping of the birds in this area, or just watching impalas and zebras feed by the lake.

However, the perfect spot to relax is the swimming pool area. Facing the lake, sun-beds offer a nice view of the surrounding scenery.

The spa is right next to the pool and for honeymooners, massages for two can be arranged.

Wireless internet connection is available in all tents. Meals are a la carte and the chef does a brilliant job. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

The camp’s location within the 48,000 acre Soysambu Conservancy is an added advantage as guests can enjoy walks and game drives in the not so explored wildlife conservancy. Soysambu protects flourishing breeding herds of endangered Rothschild giraffes, as well as the nationally threatened colobus monkeys.

According to Camp Manager Alphaxud Chege, weddings can be organised in the bush, on the lake shore, at the sundowner spot on the hill or on the Western side of the lake.

Due to its close proximity to Nakuru, activities to undertake are many. The Kariandusi pre-historic site is also close by for some history lessons. Other things to do include horse rides, camel rides into the bush, and a walk in the wild with a guide as you experience the flora and fauna.
