A sparkle here, a sparkle there

Traditionally, Kenyans have held weddings on Saturdays but for Cissie Karanja and Joseph Kagicha, they were not willing to be part of this tradition, they chose a Friday. What's more, the bride and bridesmaids wore Indian attire, moving away from the conventional wedding outfits.

Indian wear does not only look good on adults, the ring bearer can testify.

I smile as you kiss me.

The wedding venue was the Royal Golf Club.

The couple spent a million shillings to make the event a success, leaving us to imagine the next initial public offering at the stock market might be a wedding related one.

Eve Bridal caught up with the couple…

Eve bridal: For how long have you known each other?

Groom: We dated for five years before our big day.

How did you meet her?

Groom: We met in Kenyatta University when she was a fresher and I was in third year. Since then, there was no turning back

EB: How did you choose the theme and colour of the wedding?

Bride: I like deep and rich colours so I went for burgundy. I have realised that Indian outfits never run out of fashion and can be easily worn way after the wedding.

EB: Why did you pick on a Friday as your wedding day?

Groom: We could not get a church booking on a Saturday hence the decision. It, however worked for us. The day was fine and it gave us enough time before travelling for our honeymoon.

EB: Challenges you faced?

Bride: Right from the start, we had to keep on adjusting the budget upward. Initially, we had estimates but many extras arose.

Balancing work and planning the wedding was also not easy.

EB: How did you finance the wedding?

Bride: We contributed most of the money but our friends chipped in as well.

EB: Did you have a planner or a wedding committee?

We are very grateful to our friends who were always there for us especially on the last days. We sincerely thank them.

EB: Given a choice to do a wedding again, what would you do different?

Bride: I would want to live it to professionals to plan it and just appear on the last day.
