Woman suffers 'life changing burns' to her face in acid attack on street

Sandown, UK: A woman is being treated in hospital for serious burns after she had acid thrown in her face.

The 22-year-old is at a specialist burns unit following the attack, which happened in Sandown on the Isle of Wight in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Local reports suggest the attack happened outside the Royal China Restaurant in Sandown.

A 48-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

A spokesman for Hampshire police said: "A 22-year-old woman from Sandown remains in a specialist burns unit, where she is undergoing treatment for serous facial burns, believed to be caused by a corrosive liquid.

"Police believe this is an isolated incident and are not looking for anyone else in relation to this attack."

A 24-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been bailed until next week pending further inquiries.
