Jennifer Lopez wants 'fully invested partner she can trust' after Alex Rodriguez split

Jennifer Lopez splitting from Alex Rodriguez had led to her thinking about the attributes she wants her next partner to have.

The 51-year-old singer and athlete - who goes by A-Rod - recently announced that they decided to end their engagement.

And now an insider has opened up on how J Lo is seeking a man who she can trust when they are not by her side and is insistent that they are "fully invested" in her.

Sharing how Play musician Jennifer "was aware" about rumours swirling about Alex being overly friendly with other females, a source told Us Weekly : "JLo was always aware of the rumours of him cheating or him messaging other girls.

Revealing how Jennifer is using the split as a learning curve to know what she wants from her next romance, they continued: "You can say that for sure [that] played a part in why the engagement ended.

"She wants someone who’s fully invested in her and someone she can trust when her partner is not around."

At the start of the month, the couple initially shut down speculation that their romance was on the rocks amid speculation that Alex's friendship with Madison LeCroy was to blame.

It follows on from someone close to Jennifer sharing that the reason for the demise of the genetically blessed pair's relationship was due to "unresolved" issues and that the age-defying beauty was unable to fully "trust" Alex prior to rumours emerging about him and Southern Charm's Madison.

The source told PEOPLE: "She insisted on it. There are too many issues that are unresolved." They added that the chart-topper - who has been filming new movie Shotgun Wedding in the Dominican Republic in recent weeks - was unable to "fully" trust Alex before sharing that she has been "pretty miserable" following the split but that she "didn't think it was in her best interests to stay with Alex."

Another source told the US site that the pandemic also caused issues for the duo as they struggled to "keep that special spark when they saw each other every day."

The insider did not confirm or deny the rumours that Alex cheated on Jennifer as they added: "Whether or not he has cheated doesn't matter. She won't tolerate the fear of it in the air between them."

On April 15 J Lo and A-Rod sent out a no-nonsense statement in which they declared that their relationship was over.

The message, released to the US Today show, said: “We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects.

"We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

The rumours surrounding Alex's involvement with 30-year-old Madison came about during a Southern Charm reunion where Madison made a claim that she'd been in contact with an ex-MLB player.

The name of the player was bleeped out.

In a chat with Page Six, Madison later revealed that she had indeed been in contact with Alex but the conversation was "innocent" and the pair had only ever "spoken on the phone".

She stressed she'd never actually met him and he was "just an acquaintance".
