A 52-year-old man charged with theft has been sentenced to two years in jail with an option of Sh50,000.
Francis Nzomo was charged with stealing motor vehicle parts at Kasarani Police Station on August 3.
Police said they spotted Nzomo as he crept into the police yard to steal. He is said to have pretended to be making a call when he was spotted by an officer.
The court heard that Nzomo fled and locked himself in a police toilet after he was cornered.
Police forced him out of the toilet and searched him.
It was then that police found him with four vehicle switches tucked inside his trousers pocket. He was booked and charged with the offence of stealing from the police yard.
He pleaded guilty to the charges. In mitigation, Nzomo promised never to steal again, claiming that he was his family’s sole breadwinner.
