I came a cross some advice from a motivational speaker who said if you want to accomplish your day’s task, ensure you start by making your bed in the morning. At first, this seemed strange. I assumed making the bed was normal for the ‘Bamba Forty’ breed. When I was young, making the bed started in class five. This was like the 11th commandment — the 10th was ‘cleanliness is next to Godliness.’ I have shared this before about my mother being a perfectionist — which meant failing to make your bed was basically an act of war. The bed is where one retires daily and should be treated as a sacred place. She expected that after waking up, you had to first thank God in prayers then make the bed before heading to the showers. I remember those days we used to have bed covers — the duvet only existed in movies. Every bed cover had a decoration of some sort. How best you made your bed depended on how straight the ever-present decorations took shape on the bed. It had to be straight.
