Wheelbarrow ya 100K! Kenyans lash out at Bungoma governor for purchase of expensive wheelbarrows

News

After an audit report in Bungoma revealed the purchase of wheelbarrows at an eye-watering Sh109,320 each, Kenyans are up in arms.

According to the report, the county spent Sh1,093,200 to acquire 10 wheelbarrows. Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka appeared perplexed when handed the audit report, which also indicated that officers at the veterinary department had inflated the price of metal hooks to Sh32,500.

"After receiving the preliminary report, I was shocked to learn that officers had bought wheelbarrows at the highest cost, but I'm still waiting for the full report so that I can act accordingly. This is wastage of public funds," he reiterated.

Kenyans have not taken the issue lightly and have taken to social media;

@ibara_agnes: Why blame the tender committee for outrageous spending? Gov. ken Lusaka must be held accountable #WheelbarrowYa100k ndio gani? Ridiculous!

@rickinyanjui: #WheelbarrowYa100k,#Bungomacounty,Does it come with a posho mill and a dozen kettle of tea?

@EmceeSakwa: Gov. Ken Lusaka should stop hiding behind the tender committee. Who approves expenditures and payments? #WheelbarrowYa100k

@zippoglisia: That #WheelbarrowYa100k  better carry all sins, corrupt,rapists,murderers,terrorists to hell.NKT!!!

Jeannie: The devolved system worsened corruption and embezzlement.

ThebullJ: Governor Lusaka this is embarrassing. ...heads should role...if you can't run a county you can't run a country.

Muriithi: The governor is waiting for the full report to act? Does he know the report is an audit of his government? Why not walk a few steps to the procurement department and get the evidence from there?
