The male battery centre that is Nyeri was memorably framed by the ‘barbed wire” face of Simon Kiguta whose 26-year-old wife Juliana Wairimu slashed his 40-year-old face after he allegedly demanded sex in 2012. Wairimu then locked Kiguta inside their house at Mihuti village in Mukurwe-ini, leaving him for dead.

Ahadi Trust later donated a power saw worth Sh70,00 for Kuguta to start a business and rebuild his life.

Last November, a 64-year-old man was stabbed to death by his wife of 37 years following a heated argument in Soweto village in Nyeri. Julius Kanake’s body was recovered outside his house with neighbours claiming that it was dragged out of the bed by the assailant. The victim’s family said they suspect that his wife killed him in his sleep. The couple’s son-in-law claimed he and his three children heard the two arguing after which the suspect escaped.

Njoka blamed “female superiority complex” for the rising cases of husband battery, tracing its roots to the high-handed female colonial chief Wangu wa Makeri, who reigned in Murang’a with an iron fist.

“It is not an issue of poverty anymore. It is about women supremacy as they want to dominate men. In fact, I was angered when the President and the Deputy were going round the country saying women ought to be empowered. Look at Uwezo Fund, are men mentioned anywhere? Is that not ‘economical abuse’?”
