Trade CS Peter Munya chides DP Ruto allies

Trade and Industry CS Peter Munya (pictured) at the weekend took a swipe at DP William Ruto and his Tanga Tanga brigade for engaging in early 2022 campaigns.

In a veiled attack, he said the directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta requiring leaders to stop early campaigns ahead of 2022 elections was to be respected by all.

He said it was wrong for some political leaders to plunge the country into a political mood.

“As leaders we must first work for the people for the remaining three years in order to prove our worth in 2022,” said Mr Munya.

The CS said a leader's development track record and not politics would determine their fate in coming elections.

He likewise supported the handshake between the president and Opposition leader Raila Odinga saying it had brought "peace and tranquility in the country".

The CS also supported a referendum to change the country’s leadership structure and the current "winner takes all" system. The Ruto team is opposed to a referendum that will expand the executive.
